I have decided to share my story and my understanding (at least at this point in my life) - just in case it might help anyone else...Because I have realized the importance for those of us who have discovered keys to True Peace in this life to become even more committed to sharing the Light than those who are committed to sharing the darkness and fear.
Too often, those of us who know All is Truly Well, allow the sometimes deafening voices for fear to quiet us, to cause us to “play smaller” than we know We Are. (The voice for fear is also known as the ego, think: edging God out. ) Some of us have been threatened. Some of us have bought into the ego’s veiled threat that taking the “high road” means staying silent. No, no, no. We are waking up to the fact that taking the “highest path” means sharing the message of Light with those who have the ears to hear and the eyes to see ~ with the other lightworkers who are remembering that we all came here for goodness and Light. And that this life is a gift to enjoy while discovering the treasures along the way. We are not here to travel the high roads alone. We are here to help each other along the way, in whatever way we can. And as more Light is shone, those who are still sleepwalking through life begin to awaken, more eyes begin to see and more ears begin to hear. And the high roads are traveled by more and more as the Light emanating from all those sharing this road grows brighter and brighter, for all to see. Together, we travel the roads in Peace and Joy rather than fear and pain. Our voices for Light are needed. We Are the angels we have been waiting for...
There are plenty of voices for fear traveling on other roads, though often disguised as “the voice of reason and reality.” And, as if the devastation and pain caused by the voices for fear isn’t enough to wake us up to the thought that there must be a better way of “doing this life,” then the sheer boredom of the unending list of reasons to fear could be enough to cause us to realize we must be missing something! ...Because we are missing something! Actually, when we are in fear and pain, we are missing everything and the only “thing” that will ever bring us back to Peace. We are missing our awareness of our Spirit and our Oneness with and in All that Is. We are missing God completely. Because whenever we have forgotten our eternal connection, and are reacting out of fear, we are literally insane - which means not in our “right mind.” Our “right mind” can only be defined as such when we are consciously thinking with the Mind of God, which is inherent in every one of us, always accessible and easily discernible by the feelings of only Peace and Love.
Good news, right?! It Truly is. And, it is also important not to take on any guilt (another trick of the ego/fear) for the ways in which you have allowed fear to rule your mind in the past. At any moment, and whenever you choose, you can forgive yourself and others completely and choose again. You have always done the best you could given the level of awareness you were at - as has everyone. And, with the often overwhelming amount of fear-based propaganda in our world right now, we are being tempted in countless ways to forget. But we need not fear this either. Because once we become aware that we have the power to choose differently and that we have simply not been protecting our mind from the ego’s fearful thoughts, we can begin to allow our mind to be repaired - and all with the help of God. Quite literally, we can be re-paired with God.
As A Course in Miracles* explains, Peace is simple. And as a matter of fact, it is our natural state. The fearful state we (with the “help” of others) have taught ourselves to live from is what is difficult and took great effort to learn. And because we have worked so hard to train our minds to listen to the fearful thoughts of the ego, before we can return completely to our natural state of mind in Love, we must go through a process of undoing our wrong-mindedness, which does take work and vigilance. And this too is good news. Because we have already done the more difficult work of teaching ourselves wrongly, we have already proven our enormous capacity to learn. In fact, the course explains that learning to listen exclusively to the Voice for God is not difficult, but “apt to be perceived as personally insulting” - as it is 180 degrees away from the “thinking of the world.” (ACIM, Manual for Teachers 9.2.4)
Jesus is the messenger and the Voice for God in A Course in Miracles and shares the keys accessible to each of us whenever we choose to listen to the Voice for God rather than the voice for fear. In the course he reminds us, “There is no limit to the power of a Son of God, but he can limit the expression of his power as much as he chooses. Your mind and mine can unite in shining your ego away, releasing the strength of God into everything you think and do. Do not settle for anything less than this, and refuse to accept anything but this as your goal...
“You are a mirror of truth, in which God Himself shines in perfect light. To the ego’s dark glass you need but say, “I will not look there because I know these images are not true.” Then let the Holy One shine on you in peace, knowing that this and only this must be. His Mind shone on you in your creation and brought your mind into being. His Mind still shines on you and must shine through you. Your ego cannot prevent Him from shining on you, but it can prevent you from letting Him shine through you.” (T 4.IV.8-9)
And as we begin this New Year, know that if you so choose to be reminded of Love only and reclaim your power to allow God to shine through you to all of the world, you will be supported and uplifted in every way. And know that you are never alone on this amazing journey...
As the Christmas Season is a gift for each of us to allow Christ’s Light to be re-born in our own mind, so too is this new year an opportunity to remember that in every moment we can choose anew to walk through this life with the Mind of Christ, where everyone is recognized as Spirit and is forgiven and healed. In every single moment we are given a new chance to choose to allow the Holy Spirit to light our mind with Love only. It is never too late. And we can and will work miracles as we choose Love again and again.
It is my belief that though there are many roads we can choose to travel in this life, there is not one “right” road and that we will all eventually get to where we are going, because we have never Truly left our home in God. Our “ending” is certain and assured as God’s Will for us of Perfect Love is always done on earth and Heaven. It is our choice however, how long we delay Peace. How long until we allow only the thoughts of Spirit to Light our mind in exchange for the painful thoughts of the ego. So too then, we choose whether our journey is experienced in joy or pain. While we choose to listen to the discouraging and fearful mind of the ego, we feel pain, worry and suffering along our way. As we choose to listen to the expansive, loving and peaceful Mind of God, our journey becomes one of real Joy.
This reminder is beautifully expressed in A Course in Miracles: “So will the year begin in joy and freedom. There is much to do, and we have been long delayed. Accept the holy instant as this year is born, and take your place, so long left unfulfilled, in the Great Awakening. Make this year different by making it all the same. And let all your relationships be made holy for you. This is our will. Amen.”
